Quirky But Solid {Quilt}

This quilt is for my 14yo son for Christmas.  I did quilt it and had the binding attached by Dec 13th. However, the entire family decided to get sick starting Dec 21st.  It's been a fun ride!  I finished up the binding on Dec 29th, so it goes on the 2013 finish list!

You are seeing it all washed and crinkly because the fuzz from the backing was pretty horrendous!
Bold colors?  Yes!!  The colors were inspired by their bedding and room colors.

I loved the woven look from the start.   I won't deny, I have one single regret.  

The solid.  I really want to do this quilt in prints and not solids. I have a baby quilt in mind!  This is my second all-solid quilt and I can honestly say....not a HUGE fan.  However, I was sticking to my stash only rule last year and will continue to do so for next year for Make A Pledge.

Plush/Minky Backing was his request.  I had purchased significant yardage of Simply Color for it, but he was adamant that he wanted this backing.  Who was I to refuse?

It did show off the pantograph pattern well.  Quirky by Willow Leaf Studios.

The Simply Color binding is my tongue sticking out at dear son #2.

  I still got some of my favorite fabric in there! HA!

I find this pattern really wonderful for a boy.  There is something about plaids and woven that say masculine to me.  Certainly wonderful for a girl too, but I like having patterns available that I won't question whether it is too "feminine".  I have a little baby boy in mind for the next one!

I have quite a few tops floating around here lately.

The two newest ones came together quickly.

They are all waiting for me to finish up my aunt's quilt.

 It is giving me a little trouble.   And my response to the problem was to order new leaders from Handiquilter so I could just take it off and start on the more pressing ones since my "due date" passed a few days ago.  However, my order hasn't arrived.

So I am forcing myself not to to touch project (other than my hexies at tv time) unless it involves any of the seven quilt tops that I stated above.

Did I actually say SEVEN?

Highlighter Quilt Top

The one great thing about knowing some quilter friends that design patterns is that I get to test them!  The only problem with that is that I have had this done since June. 

 It's hard to not to share secret projects, I tell you!

I had originally wanted to do prints, but my new rule this year was that any quilt I add to my already quite long list has to have a distinct home.   The second limitation I put on myself was to try to use current stash as much as possible.   I needed to be tough on myself.

I already had a pattern for Button's nursery that is still in the works.  (Somone please put a firepoker at my back to get me going?!??!)  I couldn't find enough fabric for Teenboy that worked in his room.  And I am glad I didn't choose it for him because the Argyle quilt that I am working on suits his room so much better.

That left the middle boys.
 Their room is pretty much done, decorating wise, but they each don't have their own quilt yet. 



Bad quilt mom, bad.  

So I pulled this Kona solids stack.

Kona Orange, Kona Turquoise, Kona Sour Apple, Blue Marine, Kona Medium Gray

I went to work, and I now have my first all solid quilt.

I'm pretty excited.  I have not quilted it yet. The 13 year old boy decided that this one was his.  He just didn't like the fact that I chose Ikat Orange for the Simply Color line. 

How dare he, right?
As soon as we settle on it, we will be quilting!
