Cookies 'n Cream and Cotton Candy Blocks {Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along}

The Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along is still rolling along and this week's blocks are the Cookies 'n Cream and Cotton Candy blocks.

I think these two blocks are soooo yummy that I can't stand it. The fabrics I chose.  The patterns are relatively simple and yet they make complicated finishes.  Those are always the best kind of blocks in my opinion.

I had to take pictures of them together because I really loved how the two blocks complement each other, despite the fact that they will be in different parts of the sampler finished top.

Cookies 'n Cream Block

I LOVE this block as a full block.  You could not go wrong with a full scrappy quilt.  Each block a different color.  An entire quilt in two colors.

Not in the mood for an entire quilt?  Just the block alone as a pillow is fun!!

 As for the fabrics?  When I read the word cream, I instantly thought of coffee or cats.

 And then the coordinating pink fabric I had just seemed to compliment it so well!

Aren't the little ducks adorable too?

Cotton Candy Block

There isn't a baseball game or fairgrounds visit that goes by that I don't have a yummy bag of cotton candy in my hands.  I can probably eat a whole bag faster than my kids.

I honestly don't think that I have a favorite flavor, but this print had a "fluffy" feeling to me.
Out of all of the full quilts, hubby loves this block the most.  I'm still deciding what layer cake from Fat Quarter Shop is my favorite to make him one!

Candy Swirl {Quilted Throw Pillow}

I may have checked the Hallmark channel to see if Christmas movie season had started after I took this picture.  It really put me in the holiday decorating project mood.
And if you are now wondering? Hallmark Christmas movie season HAS started.

I finished my Candy Swirl Block project from the Vintage Christmas Fat Quarter Shop quilt along!!
 The Vintage Christmas book includes some really great small and large projects.

 I decided to spice up the vintage look with more modern matchstick quilting.  It really is one of my go-to for throw pillows.  I get a lot of questions on how I do it, and I am promising my followers that I am working on some really helpful tutorials over the next few months.

Lori Holt has suggestions for some cute trim around the binding, however, I thought the gingham fabric I chose was just the right touch.

I chose a small dotted red for the pillow backing from my stash.  I love using up my stash!

Another go-to?  Hidden zippered back.  And, again, I have a video tutorial in the works!

I'm really excited to bring some tutorials that can be used in conjunction with some pattern releases I have coming out in the near future...so stay tuned!!

Quilt Project Finish:
Measures: 18"x 18"
Pattern: Candy Swirl from Vintage Christmas
Fabric: Reproduction Vintage Fabrics, Robert Kaufman Quilters Cotton, Joann Fabrics
Quilted: Matchstick Quilting with Superior Threads and Gutermann on Babylock Symphony

 I'm actually excited to have a new pillow for my bedroom for the coming Christmas season. Usually I am trying to make Christmas items AFTER the holidays because other things are getting in the way.

What are you already making for the holidays to brighten up your home?

Candy Swirl Block {Vintage Christmas Sew Along}

"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups:  Candy, Candy Canes, Candy Corns, and Syrup."
~Buddy the Elf

I present to you one of the four main food groups!

The Candy Swirl block is a block from the new Lori Holt from Bee In My Bonnet book with Fat Quarter Shop, Vintage Christmas.

I used some more of the vintage reproduction fabrics I had stacked up on my studio island.
 I couldn't resist!!!

I am finishing up a project with this block today.  Stay tuned!!!

The other blocks made by the bloggers that are featuring them this week!

Coffee and Cookie Dough Blocks {Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Sew Along}

It's week 3 of the Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop!
Sometimes I lose interest in a quilt along and keeping up with blocks, but the blocks for this quilt are so simple and easy...and I love the way they showcase the fabrics I chose!

This week we are making two Coffee blocks and one Cookie Dough block unit.

Coffee Block

The fabric choices were just too easy this time.

Roosters for dragging myself out of bed and the mandatory two coffee cups for me to be human.

And a little marching band man...reminiscent of me marching around and saying "Get up! Get Up!" and then "Get dressed! Get Dressed!" and "Eat! Eat!" and "TIME TO GO!!!!" on school day mornings!

The full quilt with this block has a Irish chain feel to it and is sooo fun!

Cookie Dough Block Unit

I chose this fabric for where it will be place on the sampler. It is close to the previous weeks blocks and complements the yellow and coconut colors.

 It is a probably the most unique fabric in the collection.

For the full quilt, you use four of these units to make up a block and it is a fabulous looking one!!

Vintage Christmas {Sew Along}

 "Christmas isn't a season.  It's a feeling!"

 There has been a loud Christmas CHEER across the internet because the Vintage Christmas Book by Lori Holt at Bee in My Bonnet has arrived at all of our doorsteps!

 I'm super excited about this because I really don't have a lot of Christmas quilts or pillows around the house.  It's a bit odd because if you have followed me long enough, you would know that I love to decorate for Christmas.  I'm sure it has a lot to do with just running out of time for projects for myself because I'm busy making gifts for everyone else.

SEW ALONG!!!

Are you in the same boat?  Do you want to make one BEFORE Christmas arrives?  Than join us!!!  In the sew along, I will be featuring two of the 42 blocks here and on Instagram, along with other fabulous bloggers, over the next nine weeks.

Buttered Pecan and Coconut Blocks {Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along}

 It's week 2 of the Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop
If you haven't heard of it or you haven't started yet, it isn't too late!  These next blocks are a mixture of simple HSTs and corner square blocks to make interesting finishes.

This week, the sampler requires two Buttered Pecan Blocks and one Coconut Block.

Buttered Pecan Block

My absolute favorite ice cream is Pralines and Cream. I love pecan pie. I LOVE PECANS.

Since pecans are my favorite, I scanned my stack of fabrics and decided that I had to pick my favorite fabric.  I have loved this print since I acquired it.  It reminds me of my childhood books that were passed down from my aunts and mother.

The incredibly fun orange print and the coordinating purple just makes it shine!
I think if you are planning a full quilt with this block? I would definitely be thoughtful of two fabrics working well with each other in each block.

I kept thinking of the sugar coated pecans in ice cream while piecing these blocks that I ended up running to the store to get some ice cream......

Coconut Block
I happened to be watching the movie, Practical Magic, when I was putting this set of blocks together and the lyrics "She put the lime in the coconut, she drank 'em bot' up..." from Harry Nilsson's Coconut song wouldn't leave my head.

 I KNEW I had to choose a green fabric for this block!

I find this block super interesting in a full quilt.  There is a really interesting secondary pattern that I would be tempted to explore with low volume fabrics as the blocks and a solid color as a background.

Banana and Birthday Cake Blocks {Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along}

Have you joined the Perfect 10 Quilt along fun?  Or are you thinking about it and need a nudge?

Either way, I can't recommend it enough!  I love that you can whip these blocks up quickly to catch up.  And I don't use the word "whip" lightly!  The names of these blocks are absolutely delectable!  I will admit, I missed the references to flavors of ice cream at first, but quickly caught on when I read "Mint Chocolate Chip" (that's a much later block and sooo much fun!)

But first...this weeks blocks!  The Banana and Birthday Cake Blocks!

Banana Block

 I found this great print from my stack of reproduction fabrics.  It reminded me of a banana that is just getting those tiny brown spots as it ripens.  I promise, with the clear instructions from the book you can't slip on this block like a banana peel on the floor!

And why do I have the sudden urge to make banana bread?!?!?
The full quilt with these blocks would be great all one color or with some really fun prints!

 Birthday Cake Block

 I'm grateful for my boys, but I sure do miss the "girly" cakes I would love to make.  This print with the purple and pink just said BIRTHDAY cake to me.  Sprinkles on my favorite icing...strawberry!
It's a great companion with the banana block with the dots of yellow!

When used in an entire quilt, it makes some incredible secondary designs. It would be great for someone who wanted to be thoughtful with color placement, but equally fun with a scrappy look!

Perfect 10 Quilts {Quilt Along}

And suddenly you know...
 It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.

The kids are in school.  The moving dust has settled.  My studio is in a workable condition for now.  It was time to dust off all of my machines and pull out some stash.  It's always a rough start when you are on hiatus from quilting.  I'm grateful for Fat Quarter Shop offering me an opportunity to join in their new book Perfect 10 Quilts quilt along so I can jump right back in!

Perfect 10 Quilts is another book by Its Sew Emma that focuses on layer cake patterns and you will never hear complaints from me when it comes to their patterns!

https://www.fatquartershop.com/perfect-10-quilts-book

Join the fun quilt along starting next week! I’ll be working on the sampler quilt every week using blocks from each of the quilts using these fun fabrics from my stash!

I'll be joining other fabulous quilters along with Fat Quarter Shop at Jolly Jabber!  I highly recommend checking out their progress. It's always amazing how different everyone's quilts are using different fabrics!
