Going Crazy

 SPAM!!!

I cannot take it anymore.  My mailbox is filled with notifications of comments!

A few of my favorites are when they tell me they like my website and want advice and then direct me to their loan payment website.  The strangest one to date is the continuous linkback to their stetchmark cream website.  Are they telling me I am pregnant based on photos or do they know something I don't know?!??!

At first, I did not mind because I was being notified, but they weren't being posted on the blog. But now they are not going to spam.

The straw that is finally breaking the camels back?
They are repeatedly posting on my darling baby girls posts and Butterfly Kisses posts.

Enough is enough.

So I have to say, my dear followers, I am going to have to add word verification or "captcha" again edited: try the "Registered user" settings (as Sewing Mom suggested) meaning, no anonymous comments to see if it decreases, but might have to add word verification.  I sometimes go a bit mad myself with it on other blogs, especially on my phone, but it has to be done.  Maybe for just a bit until the spam stops?  I don't know.  I was impressed how well Google was capturing them, but lately the frequency has increased exponentially.

Am I the only one that endured this?  What are some of your funny or not so funny comments?

In other news...I did finally finish the rest of the throw pillows of Teen Boy.

He hasn't been complaining, but I really wanted to get the fabric out of my way and the pillows out from underneath my long arm.  Just one more project and his room is officially "done".

Well.  I do need to get started on his t-shirt quilt.  He is probably leaving me in two years now.

  1. Wow, that would be highly annoying! I haven't had any issues to date and hope that I don't. Word verification used to be something that I could do with relative ease, but lately they are almost illegible and I find that I struggle to get it right the first time...then by the third time, I'm at my wits end! Could you write blogger about the issue and maybe they could look into it? who knows. You could always block Anonymous comments...that might help without adding word verification. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

  2. That might be a good alternative, Sewing Mom. I don't get many anonymous comments that aren't spam. Thanks for that advice. I really appreciate it!!!

  3. Yes, spam has gotten really bad lately! I did the same thing as Sewing Mom - I don't allow anonymous comments anymore. So far, that's worked like a charm and I haven't had to add word verification. I still get a few spam comments here and there, but nothing I can't deal with. Good luck!

  4. It's a ridiculous epidemic… It's increased by a huge amount, my email has been littered with totally inappropriate spam, and I'm even getting spam text messages lately. Part of it is a by-product of blogging but I really don't need pictures of naked women or ads for "pharmaceuticals". These people need a stern talking-to!

I've heard one thing that can help is turning off comments on old posts. Once they're a month or two old, go back in and turn the comments off. See if that helps. Good luck!

  5. Angela from Cut to Pieces(cuttopieces.blogspot.com) just had the same similar problem and she received over 60 comments on how to correct the issue. If you do get the time check out what they all had to say. The post about spam are in the Feb 2013 archives.

  7. That spam is frustrating, isn't it? I've had a few - usually comments on older posts, but with the registered user setting, it hasn't been too much of a problem. Good luck figuring it out!

  8. After they added the handicap options, it stopped bothering me. People can get used to anything. Even word verification. Enjoy some spam-free peace.

  9. There is also an option to view comments on older blog posts. I find I am getting spam on older posts so I increased the detection and now it's better.

  10. Those anonymous spam comments are very annoying. I have added comment moderation to older posts so I can keep them from getting through.

  11. Awe...sorry you have to deal with this. I love your blog. I have so few followers that I dont have a problem with spam. As least that is what I am thinking is the reason. Hope this works for you.
