Debonaire {Quilt}

courteous, gracious, and having a sophisticated charm:

a debonair gentleman.

The definition describes the man that helped restore my aunt's antique treadle I inherited. He was our neighbor in Houston that had an amazing wood workshop and did gorgeous work. He offered to help me out when he happened to walk in our garage and saw the cabinet in such a state. 

The restoration of the machine head is an entirely different, lengthy post for the future!

I was so excited, when we started discussing veneer replacement versus restoration.  There was horrible water mold stains and the top that lifts had severe rippling and lifting....not to mention that the veneer had been replaced on the sides the wrong direction by a family member in the past.  I asked him if I could pay him and he wouldn't let me. We finally agreed I would hem some curtains for him. I felt like I was getting a better part of the deal.

As our moving date fast lay approached, he rolled over the refurbished treadle.

Not only did he fix the broken lift, he replaced the veneer (in the right direction) and even made a wooden wheel to match the only three I had!!! 

I knew then I had to make a quilt for him and his super, lovely wife. Hemming some curtains was just not going to be enough. But it had to be quick.  I raided my closet and instantly knew that my Debonaire quilt kit from the Fat Quarter Shop was perfect. 

And boy. It was a painful sacrifice because I really, really was excited about the quilt for our family room.

And my most favorite "traditional style" fabric on the planet.  French general.

I also looooved that this quilt also kept my SewMyStash2015 goal strong.  

I had bought the 108" backing fabric for my grandparents quilt and had just enough leftover for this one. 

And the choice of doing a Lida pantograph in beige thread was perfection!

I also made one of my embroidery labels. I spent one evening designing about 8 quilt labels on my software. And the next day stitching them out. Worth the trouble. 

I'm so glad I was able to make it in time before we moved.

 Unfortunately, I cannot find the final finished photo.  We took a quick one with hubby's phone because my camera was packed away.  Somehow, the photos were lost when we moved them to Dropbox. 

But every time we Facebook message or text, they remind us that they use it every night!!!!

Never Fall In Love

Never fall in love with a half yard fabric cut.

Especially when you need 30 yds of it.

I was organizing some of my French General scraps to make some more throw pillows for the family room, and stumbled on this piece.  I had an epipahny!  They would work great in our formal room, we cheekily call the "Library". 

 Only on the basis that we do not have an office and it is filled mainly with book cases and my large crosstitch frame stand.

 This chair has left and a different layout has happened.  But more importantly, because of the new arrangement, Mr. Boss is chomping at the bit for me to get the room "finished".  

Which means window treatments.

Which means 30 yds worth of fabric.

These are the moments that I wish fabric designers/manufacturers would keep fabric lines just a wee longer.

Anyone else ever have these feelings?

You Would Think...

That I would be done with quilting after the hours spent on the t-shirt quilt last week...

But as soon as the T-shirt quilt went out the door, Bunny and I were determined to finish his Sharpie Marker Roll Saturday afternoon!

And we did!!!!

I am actually so jealous to see all 26 colors that I want to make one for my own pack of 24!!!

He did such a fabulous job matching up the colors from my scraps, that I think I am going to have him help me with mine!


 Oh...I forgot...the T-shirt quilt.

I am so excited to recently be included in this charity bee!!!  I am going to be a quilter for the Imagine at Do. Good Stitches!! Which means I am responsible for two blocks a month and a quilt every so often!  So now you will be seeing a blocks in my WIP posts!

Secret project. 
 I hate when I see this on other blogs because it is such a tease, but I don't want to ruin the surprise for this person!!!!  I finalized my design, worked out my cutting measurements, and ordered the fabrics this past Sunday!

 Yes...I joined my first Block of the Month. I had to have it.  I can't imagine a better fabric (French General) or style for my family room if you remember my change in Christmas decorations HERE.  It started in February, so I have to catch, up...

I am not exactly sure how all this happened...I am guessing I am a little crazy...

I need some backing fabric for my Retro Flower QAL project. I had bit of change of heart about the fabric choice I had before.

Tracey at Traceyjay quilts knew that I am a lover of French General and she has been de-stashing like crazy and offered to make me a bundle and throw in some yardage!

This is just a smidgen of what she sent me!! She stuffed a mailer to the gills with all sorts of yummy scraps!!

 I wish I had a better photo, but, alas, I am still having trouble with my camera. The new batteries arrived, but my charger still didn't work.  Now I must wait for a new battery charger!
