Neapolitan and Peach 'n Cream blocks {Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along}

It's week 7 of the Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along with the Fat Quarter shop...only one more week and we can put together our blocks for a finished quilt top!

Neapolitan Blocks

All these purples are inspiring me to use purple for the backing and binding.

I adore the color pattern arrangement suggested in the book.  I can see them in rainbows!

Peaches 'n Cream Block

Who doesn't like a flying geese pattern?  

One layer cake for this quilt makes my favorite lap size, a 64" square quilt.  

After making this block with these colors, it has convinced me to use them for a spring quilt in the future!

Lemon Sorbet and Mint Chocolate Chip blocks {Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along}

It's Week 5 of the Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along with the Fat Quarter Shop!

This is the point where I sometimes lose some steam, but I love the fabrics for these blocks!

Lemon Sorbet Blocks

I just HAD to use yellow prints.  

And the ducklings with umbrellas to coordinate in green?  Magic, right?

These blocks with simple HSTs make for a great modern looking quilt together.  I could see myself making an entire quilt with just two colors and the background.

Mint Chocolate Chip Block

I had to keep the green and yellow theme going with this block.  But that pop of purple flower was everything to me.  Its screams grandma's fresh vintage sheets, doesn't it?

Another really interesting block that can be made to look like a X or an O.  The book has a delightful example of it!

A Stitch in Time {English Paper Piecing Book}

I actually made a place mat!

Just kidding...

I started making a place mat and changed my mind and made a throw pillow.

The pattern is called the Tea Time Placemat from Sharon's from Lillabelle Lane Creations's new book, A Stitch in Time.

She asked a few of us bloggers if we would join her for a tour of her book and I had to do another project with one of her patterns from her amazing English Paper Piecing book!!

It really is a lovely publication.  There are a ton of small projects that you can finish rather quickly. They would make great gifts as the holidays approach.  This throw pillow that I adapted from the place mat pattern is quick to make and allows a lot creative ways you can add your own touch.

I had originally planned to take the vintage feel that the reproduction prints gave a little further with some embroidery as she suggested in her book, but I couldn't resist giving it a modern twist with matchstick quilting adding pops of color to tone the dark brown crosshatch fabric I used for the background.

The only difference than her placemat finish is that I added a hidden zipper backing.

And instead of the headache of piping?  I just bind my pillows as if they were quilts!

Dutch Chocolate and French Vanilla Blocks {Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along}

If you need a lovely distraction today, this week's blocks are JUST the ticket!!!  You could still probably catch up with the Fat Quarter Shop quilt along today!

 Did I mention how happy I am with all these reproduction prints? 

 I'm sure I did. I just had to say it again....

Dutch Chocolate Block 

I think I always am embarrassed to say that I am not a fan of chocolate.  I don't hate it, but it's just not my favorite.  I actually have two children that refuse to eat it.  But I AM part dutch.  My maiden name is probably the most Dutch last name you could ever make up!

 

  

Because of that, I had to choose prints of little girls that had clogs on them.

I loved the orange so much, I chose the coordinating prints that had little bits of the orange in them to go with it.

 

This block is REALLY a great way to use a collection of your favorite layer cake stack.  You can't go wrong with a solid layer cake either!

French Vanilla Blocks

The best part of French Vanilla is that it is subtle, but has a lot of impact.  These blocks are super easy, but when you make four blocks at a time, they are just the happiest of blocks!

Because most kids start out with vanilla as their first ice cream, I decided to pick some fun children prints.

And if hubby is reading this now, he is probably rolling his eyes about that statement, but I'm being honest.  I really DO think about the story my prints are telling when I'm making quilts. 

I still have my tattered childhood book of Mother Goose Nursery rhymes in my possession.

 

The prints of Jack and Jill, Hey Diddle Diddle and what seems to be Alice in Wonderland are just so perfect and happy!

 

With that in mind, if anyone was asking? I would definitely recommend using this block pattern to make a fun baby quilt or a quilt for child that likes a specific character theme!!
