Snow Day {Quilted Potholders &. Trivets}

Tomorrow has been declared a SNOW DAY!!!

It’s really just a “the ice is going to be really bad, so stay home, because it’s the south and we don’t know how to take care of the roads…ya hear?!?” day around these parts.

Either way? This school nurse is as giddy as her students!

As I was making a warm meal as the temperatures dropped tonight, I realized I never shared my snowflake trivets and potholders that I finished awhile back.

I was part of a row by row blog hop, many moons ago, where I was asked to design an EPP row. I came up with these fun snowflakes for the Winter Wonderland quilt.

A few months ago, I came to the conclusion I was never going to finish the other rows, since I obviously never started them.  I knew that my husband would make fun of my Xmas potholders, as he usually does, when January hit.  I thought they would make great “winter” gear for the kitchen!

The hexie shaped trivets work well for all kinds of shapes and sizes of hot items and I always love making, what I call, pocket potholders to protect the back of my hands (see second photo). And I used up stash!

I can’t wait to have my coffee at my leisure tomorrow morning and surprise our puppy when he realizes I’m not going to work. And of course, a little time in the studio…

Sew Four Patch & Sew Cabin Blocks {Sew Scrappy Spools Quilt Along}

It's the KICKOFF post of the year long

Sew Scrappy Spools Quilt Along!!

For the details of the quilt along, including pattern, supplies, and dates, see my earlier post announcement HERE.

This Month’s Block

Sew Four Patch & Sew Cabin Blocks

There are four total blocks for each style if you are making the entire quilt.

I only capped one block of each style because I am not sure if I want to do that at the end or while I work.

The good news is? I have a whole month to think about it and make my decision! Stay tuned for next month’s block on Thursday, February 9th!

Meet the other Quilters

Keep up with us by following @fatquartershop on Instagram to see and share work from your fellow quilters. Don’t forget to use #SewScrappySpoolsQAL to share your progress on social media on the second Thursday of each month, so we don’t miss seeing your scrappy quilts!

You can find Lori Holt on her blogYouTube Channel, and Instagram (@beelori1).

Sew Scrappy Spools {Quilt Along}

I am so excited to start of this new year with a quilt along!!! I'm sometimes a more of "binge" kinda girl when it comes to quilts, but Fat Quarter Shop always entices me to join their block of the months or quilt alongs like the Sew Scrappy Spools to take it easy and enjoy each "episode" at a time.

I have wanted to do a spool style quilt for quite awhile, so this one designed by Lori Holt excited me with its different style blocks.

Her patterns and blocks have not let me down over the years!

Every month throughout the year, we’ll be sewing different blocks from the pattern. To join the year-long Sew Scrappy Spools Quilt Along, gather your scraps and supplies so you’re ready to start on January 12.

Kimberly will be sewing with Calico by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs

You can tune in to Fat Quarter Shop’s Friday Livestreams every month to see her progress and check out the video below where Lori and Kimberly discuss the Sew Scrappy Spools Quilt Along!

I have chosen
Bee Plaids by Lori Holt

with Bee Plaid Backgrounds by Lori Holt.

Spools are Bee Cross Stitch in Pebble and Bee Cross Stitch in White for my sashing and borders.

I'm especially excited about the backing I chose. Bee Backings in 108" wide.  It is just so perfect with the spool blocks on the front!

The Sew Scrappy Spools Quilt is 72.5″ x 90.5″ finished. Be sure to grab anything you need from the optional supplies listed below.

I know it has been a bit since I have blogged. I have had my hands full since returning to work as a school nurse and then sideswiped by a pandemic.  I have been able to get back on my feet and started quilting regularly this fall. It would great to see some "old" quilting friends with me on this journey!!

Tomorrow is the kick off for the first block.

And I can promise you, it is NEVER too late to join in.
