Sew Scrappy Spools {Quilt Top Finish}

A year full of spool blocks for the Sew Scrappy Spools Quilt Along definitely make a spool full quilt!

This Month: The Finish

 After making the November blocks, I laid out the blocks for the layout.

Then I added the spool tops and bottoms on the blocks that were directional like the flags and hearts.

There are three blocks that I didn't fix, but I am pretty sure only I will know which ones they are.

With the busy season, I did not have time to quilt the top yet, but I have it all loaded up on my longarm machine with the Bee Backing and Border fabric in mint. 

And I already tried to see what it would look like on my studio wall behind my longarm when its quilted and I think it will be perfect!

Now I just need to do one more starch and press and choose a pantograph that suits it. Any ideas?

Sew Tulips Block

These blocks are very cute and would make great spring projects.

I chose a light background for all the blocks. 

If you didn't realize, these are the LAST blocks!!  The next post will be the entire quilt!!!

The temperatures have finally dropped and it isn't hot every waking moment here in Texas. It is a blessed relief after a brutal summer.

Sew Triangles Block

These blocks didn't take to long to put together compared to the stars last month!

It made for easy work while escaping from a home project that was noisy and dusty!

I can't believe there is only one more block to go before I will be putting the entire quilt together!

Sew Star and Sew Stripes {Sew Scrappy Spools Quilt Along}

"Never forget"

The block names this month seem so appropriate after just remembering the 11th on Monday. It seems ages ago, but yet feels like yesterday.

This Month’s Blocks 

Sew Star Block

The star block has a lot of parts, but they are worth it!

I loved using the same point fabrics with different centers and backgrounds. 

Sew Stripes Blocks

The stripe blocks were simplistic, but they resemble actual spools the most. 

I was so tempted to do strips of one color for each spool, but resisted and stuck to the complete scrappy looks.

I am so glad to be able to have this sew along as I returned to work. I had thought I would be able to balance, but the germs had other ideas for me this fall as school started. It forces me to get acquainted with my studio at least once a month!

Nurse Nancy {Finished Project}

“Let us never consider ourselves finished, nurses.  We must be learning all our lives.” ~Florence Nightingale 

The new school year has begun and I was excited to be able to hang a little piece of “home” in my school clinic.  

This block means a lot to me. 

COVID hit in Spring 2020, my first year at my new district at a public school..  I was already feeling pretty overwhelmed and having a worldwide pandemic was daunting as a healthcare worker.  It was perfectly fitting that I was able to pattern test Nurse Nancy for Easy Patchwork.

Little did I know at the time, that the next 3 years would be filled with COVID and very little quilting.  Even this new school year, I am still giving guidance to parents and reporting to the State Department of Health. 

This summer, I finally “found” my studio again and decided I would finally finish the block. I had played around with ideas of wall hangings or making more blocks along the health lines.  But after much thought, I felt the block needed to be by itself as a memory for me.  

I found a frame just bigger than the block.  

Added more background so I could stitch some crosshatch diamond quilting.

I found some cute hexagon cork board to surround her!  I love EPP and it is a lovely nod to that. I hope to have some cute updates as I decorate for each new month. Paper bats in October and butterflies in spring pinned to them?

Even if the kids don't care, it already is something that makes me smile when I walk in and out.  And reminds me that I WILL find balance as soon as the beginning of the year demands and deadlines die down.
