Sewing For Boys

My copy arrived last week.  I have been meaning to give it a wee review.

I have to say...my online sewing ladies mentioned it and I went to Amazon and pre-ordered it RIGHT AWAY.

When it arrived on my doorstep, I was so excited.  I waited until I had a perfectly quiet time to read it.

So, I am going to be COMPLETELY HONEST.

I am not in love as much as I thought I would be.

I know the GREAT bloggers out there that participate in all the BOY series in bloggerland are raving about it the last few days.  But, as always, I am bucking the system.

Don't get me wrong.

There are adorable pants, jackets, and hoodies.

It was the "fillers" that disappointed me.

A bucket hat?  A car mat?  A crayon roll?  A belt?

Maybe it is because I am so involved on an online sewing community and have instant access to free tutorials.

I am happy to make Button a few things from the book though.

I do plan on making the Treasure Pocket Pants, Pauley's Pullover, and Luka Hoodie, and Two-in-one Jacket.

But....to be completely fair, if there is someone who is new to sewing for their boy.

This book is DEFINITELY for you.

So forgive me my little tantrum.  I just was hoping for something other than pants, shorts, shirts, and jackets.

I think the REAL problem is that I wish I was sewing for a girl.
My girl............

  2. Thanks Kristi...I don't think I realized what was bugging me until I wrote that final line.

You never know when it shows it's face!

Like I said, it is a great book. I think I was searching for something that will never be! :)

  3. The "sewing-for-boys review comment" is too vague for a helpful response. To provide context, ask about the book, website, content, age-appropriateness, style, and recommendation to other sewists with boys. Once provided, a targeted comment can be written that addresses your experience and opinion.

  4. Creating boys' clothing can be exciting, especially when you try out new styles and fabrics! Denim is one of my favorite types of fabric as it is strong and can be used in a variety of designs. There are lots of good patterns available. Also, it is not hard to get good fabric in Pakistan, since there are many established denim clothing company in pakistan and good denim pieces for boys can be made which are suitable for daily usage!
